Lapis Lazuli

Used in the mask of Tutankhamun, Lapis lazuli has been prized for thousands of years for its intense blue colour. Favoured by the people of Afghanistan and nomadic cultures around the world- Lapis has regal connotations and was frequently used as a pigment by the artists of the renaissance. The blue is from the presence of lazurite whereas the white sodalite often contrasts with the metallic sheen formed by the presence of pyrite.
