Glass Beads

People have been making glass beads for adornment for over 5000 years. Since the discovery of fire, it wasn't long before the first core-forming process of wrapping molten glass around a mandrel to form intricate designs was discovered. An important source of trade for thousands of years, antique glass beads have become highly valuable and replicas are made to this day. From the powder-glass making traditions of the Kiffa beads of Mauritania to the intricate millefiori "thousand-flower" beads of Venetian manufacturer; antique glass beads can be found comprising thousands of shapes and patterns and limited only by the imagination.
