Cameroon Grasslands Mask
Cameroon grasslands helmet mask form the kingdom of Kom. The grasslands is a large area in central Cameroon and is home to the Bamileke, Bamun and Tikar peoples. Reverence is paid to ancestors and often to the skulls of the deceased, this is the orgins of the helment masks found within grasslands cultures. Owing to the cultural complexity of this region it is not always easy to identify the specific region from which a mask originates.
African helmet masks are worn on top of the head. The dancer would then conceal their body with Ndop textiles.
